Author Guidelines

Ophthalmologica Indonesiana is a scientific journal published by the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (PERDAMI). The journal publishes original research, reviews, and case reports in ophthalmology, covering diagnostics, therapeutics, surgical techniques, and scientific research. It is published twice a year (February and August) and is accessible online.

 

General Instructions

1. Manuscripts must be written in well-structured, grammatically correct English (American English preferred). Poor English may result in rejection. Authors may use English writing tools, professional translators, or editors to ensure clarity.
2. Manuscripts must be original, never published previously, and not under review by another journal, to avoid plagiarism. All authors must have read and agreed to the copyright transfer.
3. Manuscripts will undergo peer review and editorial evaluation. Manuscripts that require improvement in format or content will be returned to the author for revision.
4. Paper format: A4, 1 spacing, 3,000–5,000 words.
5. Tables, figures, and references must follow the guidelines below.

• Manuscripts must follow the structure and formatting described below.

 

Title Page

• Title: Clear and informative, capitalize each word, maximum 20 words, written in Georgia Bold, centered
• Author names listed in order of contribution, accompanied by affiliated institution, email, and corresponding author's phone number
• Include Article History: Received, Revised, Accepted

 

Abstract and Keywords

• Abstract must be structured: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusion
• Maximum 250 words
• Typed in Avenir, 9 pt font
• Keywords: exactly 5, listed below the abstract

 

Introduction

• Written in Avenir, 10 pt, 1 spacing; new paragraph indents 6 pt
• Include background, relevance, and brief literature review
• Include measurements in International System (SI) units. Do not start a sentence with a numeral — spell it out instead
• References numbered according to Vancouver style and placed in superscript after the punctuation

 

Methods

• Written in Avenir, 10 pt, 1 spacing, with 6 pt paragraph indent
• Describe research design, population/sample, data collection, and data analysis
• Ethical approval: for manuscripts reporting data from studies involving human participants or animals, formal review and approval (or formal review and waiver) by an appropriate institutional review board or ethics committee is required, and must be described in this section
• Statistical method: describe the statistical method used in detail; unusual methods should be written with reference to the method used
• Tables: numbered sequentially according to order mentioned in the text; legend written above the table in Avenir 10pt, single space; use horizontal lines only (top, inside, bottom), no vertical lines; must be self-explanatory and not duplicated in the text or figures
• Figures: numbered sequentially, legend written below the figure in Avenir 10pt; cited in the text in numerical order (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.) as first mentioned; black & white images minimum 300 dpi, color images minimum 600 dpi, image size 9 cm (single column) or 18.5 cm (double column); accepted file formats: GIF, TIFF, EPS, JPEG, PSD, CDR; written permission required if the figure is a photograph of an identifiable person or a previously published illustration 

 

Results and Discussion

• Written according to research type (quantitative or qualitative)
• Quantitative: descriptive statistics, assumption tests, hypothesis testing
• Qualitative: themes from analysis
• Combine results and discussion as appropriate, with critical interpretation

 

Conclusion

• State answers to research objectives, not a summary of results
• Must be concise, clear, and based on results and discussion

 

Acknowledgment and Funding

• Acknowledge contributions of colleagues, institutions, reviewers, respondents, and assistants
• Funding: specify source(s) of financial support, including grant numbers if applicable
• If no funding: “This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”

 

References

• Written according to Vancouver style, numbered according to order of appearance in the text — not alphabetically
• List all author names if 6 or fewer; if more than 6, list the first author followed by "et al."
• Abbreviate journal names according to Index Medicus
• References must be checked against the original documents before submission, and styled correctly so they may be hyperlinked
• References should generally consist of sources published within the last 10 years
• Use of reference management software (Mendeley, EndNote, etc.) is recommended
• Avoid using abstracts as references. Material accepted for publication but not yet published may be cited using "in press" (e.g., Leshner et al. Molecular mechanisms of cocaine addiction. N Engl J Med. In press 1996.)
